Indians' Westbrook Has Hip Surgery

POSTED: 1:18 am EDT September 6, 2008

(Sports Network) - Indians pitcher Jake Westbrook, who had season-ending Tommy John surgery in June, underwent successful arthroscopic hip surgery Friday in Nashville.

The injury was not necessarily baseball-related, and according to head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff, it was more related to the pitcher's body type.

Westbrook will be on crutches for about four weeks, and the procedure will not affect his return time, which could be around the middle of the 2009 season.

The righty was 1-2 with a 3.12 earned run average this season in only five starts.
